Ethical considerations were important for both parts of COP 3. 'Design has a huge influence on how people behave and live their lives. As designers, we are trained to solve problems and make people's lives better. ... In fact design is an inherently ethical activity. That's why designers should know about ethics and learn to incorporate it in your design work.'
Below are ethical considerations for both the theoretical and practical approach.
Theoretical Ethical Consideration
References
Another ethical consideration for this project was to ensure any quotes were referenced correctly in Harvard format to avoid plagiarism. It was essential to back up relevant points and arguments with references. However, it is essential to not pass these references off as my own writing. Therefore all quotes were Harvard referenced and longer quotes with 25 words or more were indented throughout the essay. Harvard referencing defines this as correct formatting.
Practical Ethical Consideration
Do no harm
The project and theoretical discussion of feminist controversy should be critical but generally unbiased. This avoids specific views causing any harm to those with opposing views. It was important to gain understanding to controversy surrounding the topic to ensure the outcome would not offend anyone. The practical visualises commodity feminism by applying advertising and 'femvertising' techniques. The approach to the practical is informed through the in-depth knowledge gathered from references and theoretical discussion throughout the essay.
